Dame Clara Furse is currently a Director of the Legal & General Group, Nomura International and Nomura Europe Holdings. From January 2001 until May 2009, she served as Chief Executive at the London Stock Exchange.
Dame Clara began her career in 1979 as a broker, joining Phillips and Drew (now UBS) in 1983, becoming a Director in 1988, Executive Director in 1992, Managing Director in 1995 and Global Head of Futures in 1996. In addition, she served as a board member and Deputy Chairman of LIFFE (1991-99).
Dame Clara was educated in Colombia, Denmark and Britain, and received her BSc (Econ.) from the London School of Economics. She was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2008 for her contribution to the Financial Services industry.
