In 2008, the AVTOVAZ-Renault and KAMAZ-Daimler deals opened a new era in the history of the Russian automotive sector, shaping the course of globalization and integration into the international community of auto producers. The economic crisis that followed introduced considerable changes into business models of auto producers all over the world and lead to fundamental changes in ownership structures of such auto giants as General Motors, Ford, Daimler, Opel and others. Given the new reality, what post-crisis strategies and international experience could be implemented to support the development of Russia’s automotive sector during next three to five years, minimizing volumes of the government aid? Will the Russian market remain among the most attractive and rapidly growing in the world?
